Technologies for Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS)

About The Event
In this, the 6th and final session of the 2020/21 SAFET conference series, we return to where we started- focusing on technological solutions to fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) challenges. MCS is an essential component of efforts to manage fisheries sustainably and for the greatest amount of benefit but has largely been ineffective or, when effective, part of highly developed, funded and enforced regulatory and institutional structures. This is changing. In this session we aim to describe the current and likely future landscape for technology-based fisheries MCS, identify the main barriers to MCS technology implementation and discuss how to overcome them, and engage in community dialogue surrounding these issues.
